Vitamin B6 belongs to a family of three closely related water-soluble compounds: pyridoxine, pyridoxal, and pyridoxamine.
The conversion of vitamin B6 to the active compound pyridoxal-5-phosphate occurs naturally in the body, and although supplements containing P-5-P are thought to be slightly better absorbed than pyridoxine, this minimal difference is not sufficient reason to use this much more expensive form of the nutrient.
